The Development Exhibition held in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, in 1974 proved a historical step for technical development in this area. Industrialists and technical persons involved in the exhibition were so impressed that it was decided to start a Polytechnic institute at Rae Bareli.

Shri Yashpal Kapoor, member Rajya Sabha, chaired the association which was made for this purpose. To remove deficiency of technical manpower, and under the umbrella of the ‘Raebareli Polytechnic Association’, The Raebareli Polytechnic was established in 1975; and under the G.O. No.: 2753 ED/ 18-GH-47-75 dated 28.8.1975 the Polytechnic was started.

Inauguration of the First session: Sri Jamil Ahmed, the then works manager of the Allahabad Polytechnic, Allahabad, took over as the founder Principal on 9.9.1975 and classes of the first batch started on 29.9.1975.

The foundation stone of the main building was laid by the then Prime Minister of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi on 20.10.1976. The polytechnic was named Feroze Gandhi Polytechnic, in the remembrance of Shri Feroze Gandhi, member of parliament in two successive terms in 1951 & 1957 from Raebareli.

A ‘Three year Diploma’ course in Information Technology has been approved by AICTE dated 1.8.2001 and approved by the U.P. government on self financing basis on 27.8.2001 with an intake of thirty students.
