Our Inspiration

Soni Memorial Trust has been set up to uphold the legacy of our father for the causes he strongly believed in.

  • * Education and Food for the underprivileged
  • * Encouraging youth to join Indian Army
  • * Care for the elderly

Dad grew up in Ferozepur where he studied under the light of the street lamp post,
He later stood first in FC College Lahore, then joined IMA Dehradun when India had not yet attained Independence and was commissioned in 1947 (2nd course, IMA).

He was Founder father of the unit- 11 Infantry Divisional Signal Regiment (01 Nov 1965) at Ahmedabad and was awarded COAS commendation for act of Gallantry in Barmer sector operations Sept-Dec 1965 for 'devotion towards duty and example set for others in service'.

The Unit, over 55 years, has consistently performed in line with high standards set by him. And was awarded GOC-in-C Southern Command Unit Appreciation for year 2018-19. Pic

Giving great respect to my father, they set up a Soni Memorial Hall where they have preserved his uniform, his office desk, his Gallantry Award, a bust and other memorabilia.

Took premature retirement from the Indian Army in 1969, after 22 years of service, to pursue a M Sc in Information Engineering from University of Lancaster, UK and spent many later years in the corporate world and as a responsible senior citizen of our great country.

He had a soft corner for underprivileged children and always distributed books, stationery and sweets to them whenever he got the opportunity.
An Officer and a Gentleman, he wanted more youngsters to join the Indian Army.
Took great care of his parents in their advanced age.
