In 2012-13, he was Chairman of Media Research Users' Council, which conducts the world's largest print readership survey, the Indian Readership Survey.
He is a Member of the Advisory Board of the Konrad Adenauer Asian Centre fir Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines.
He is a founder-member of the executive board of Asia News Network, a grouping of 22 newspapers in 18 Asian Countries, and has twice been its Chairman.
He has twice been chairman of United News of India, one of India's two National wire agencies, and served on its board for more than 15 years. Educated at DPS, Mathura Road and the University of Delhi, Mr. Kumar won the Durga-Ratan Award for Investigative Journalism in 1986 and IIPM Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2011.
He has lectured on journalism at univeristies in India, Malaysia, Italy, Singapore, Turkey, UK and South Africa and been a keynote speaker at serveral conferences around the world.
Eariler this year, his book, Threescore and Fifteen- A Story of the Indian Newspaper Society, was released by President Pranab Mukherjee and has been widely reviewed in the Press.
