Sumit Kumar is an Indian Film Maker, who has worked predominantly in the Mumbai Film Industry (Bollywood).

Sumit has worked in many movies like 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Khamoshi - the Musical', 'Firaaq', 'Hanuman' & 'Return of Hanuman' (both animated feature films) & many others.

He has been working in the Indian Film industry for the past 24+ years and has rich & varied experience in Direction, Line Production, & Post-Production.

FILM EDUCATION / TRAINING
Post Graduate diploma in Film Direction, from The Film & Television Institute of India [FTII], Pune, India's premier film school. [1994-96]



WORK EXPERIENCE (FEATURE FILMS)

Executive Producer on a Marathi feature film titled "Monsoon Football", directed by Milind Ukey and starring Sagarika Ghatge, Vidya Malavade, Delnaaz Irani, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Nagesh Bhosle, Smita Gondkar, Usha Naik & others. The film is complete and ready for release.

In January 2019, line produced the Mumbai leg of a Hindi Feature Film titled "Bawri", based on the Krishna Consciousness movement and supported by ISKCON.

Line Producer on the Hindi feature film 'Island city', produced by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) Ltd. The film stars Vinay Pathak, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Chandan Roy Sanyal & Amruta Subhash among others. The film won an award at the 72nd Venice Film festival (2015) & has been selected at various other film festivals.

Line Producer on a Konkani feature film titled "Baga Beach", shot in Goa. The film won the National award for the best Konkani film of the year.


Executive Producer on the Hindi feature film "Bubble Gum", directed by Mr. Sanjivan Lal & produced by Koncept Infotainment. The film starred Sachin Khedekar & Tanvi Azmi. (Released : July 2011)


Supervised the post-production of an Indonesian animation film titled "Geng-The Adventure Begins", which released in theatres all over, in August 2010.

Percept Picture Company (2004 - 2009)

As Associate Vice-President (2007 - 2009), was entrusted with the development of animation as a business, and also to develop animation feature film projects, for the newly created animation division.

Oversaw the post-production of 'Firaaq', the directorial debut of actress Nandita Das and its coordination, for various international and national festivals, until its release in March, 2009.

Executive Producer & project head on the animation film 'Return of Hanuman', directed by Anurag Kashyap.

Project head for '50 Lakh', a bilingual (Telugu-Hindi) film, which was released by Percept, in 2007.

Line Producer & Project Head for the Hindi feature film, 'MP3 - Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar', directed by Robby Grewal, and starring Ruslaan Mumtaaz & Hazel Crowney.

Supervised the promo work for Nagesh Kukunoor's Hindi feature film 'Dor', starring Ayesha Takia, Gul Panag & Shreyas Talpade. (2006)

Executive Producer on the first full-length animation feature film, to be released theatrically in India, 'Hanuman', directed by Mr. V.G. Samant.

Executive Producer on the Hindi feature film, 'Pyaar Mein Twist', starring Rishi Kapoor & Dimple Kapadia, & directed by Mr. Hriday Shetty.

iDream Productions (2003-04)

Supervising Director on iDream Productions' Hindi feature film 'Naina', starring Urmila Matondkar and directed by Mr. Shripal Morakhia.

Casting for iDreams' then under-production project 'Rum Pum Posh', a comedy to be directed by Mr. Vinay Shukla (Godmother).

Executive Producer on two international under-production films, 'Dead Air' & 'The Blue Tin', to be directed by British Directors with an international cast.

Supervised the entire post-production of iDreams' English feature film 'King of Bollywood', starring Om Puri & Sophie Dahl, and directed by Mr. Piyush Jha,. Executive Producer on iDreams' English feature film 'Cape Karma', directed by Pankaj Advani, & starring Rahul Dev, Gulshan Grover & Audrie Woodhouse.

Chief Assistant Director (AD) with Mr. Milind Ukey (2002-03)

Was Chief AD on the Hindi feature film 'Deshdevi' produced by Mr. Nitin Desai and directed by Mr. Milind Ukey.

Was also Chief AD on Mr. Ukey's award-winning Marathi film "Devki" which won the Screen and Maharashtra state awards for best Marathi film and best director in 2002. Overall, the film won 27 awards.

J. Sughand Productions (2001-2002)

Executive Producer on the Hindi feature film "System", starring Aryan Vaid, Sonali Bendre, Pooja Batra.

Assistant Director to Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali ( 1996-99)
Was 1st Assistant Director on the Hindi feature film "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" (1999) starring Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan & Ajay Devgan.
(1997-99).

Assisted Mr. Bhansali on his award winning & critically acclaimed directorial debut, "Khamoshi: The Musical" (1996) starring Manisha Koirala, Salman Khan & Nana Patekar.

WORK EXPERIENCE (SHORTS / DOCUS ETC)

Executive Producer on a film on organ donation for NOTTO, starring Naseeruddin Shah.

Executive Producer for the 'Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan' TVC, a film for ad agency, JWT (Delhi).

Produced an ad film (TVC) in 2011, for Signature Pharmaceuticals, for their product 'Pain-O-Joint', featuring Maushmi Udeshi & Raju Kher.

CORPORATE FILMS (2000-2001)

Produced and directed films for Nicholas Piramal for their medicinal products.

Advertisement Films - Shadows & Whispers (1999)

Production controller for the Lauret shower chamber/cubicle ad films (TVCs) & for the Moulinex range of Kitchen appliances, produced by 'Shadows & Whispers' & directed by Mr. Shailesh Gupta.

Misc Film Projects (1997)

- Worked with the now internationally renowned Academy (Oscar) and   Grammy award winning director, Mr. Asif Kapadia, on his diploma film,
  'The Sheep Thief'.

The film was screened at festivals around the world, and won many awards including Second Prize at Festival de Cannes 1998 Cinefondation; the Grand Prix at the Brest European Short Film Festival 1997; Best Short Film Award at St. Petersburg Film Festival 1998 & many others.

Chief Assistant Director on an image film for the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), directed by Col. Raj Kapoor in 1997. Was shown at the NIFT international convocation.

EXPERIENCE (OTHER)

- Have been conducting film-making workshops in Nagpur and Mumbai. Have   been simultaneously working on setting up a digital platform for aggregating   films and more.

FILM INSTITUTE EXPERIENCE ( Jan 1994 to March 1997)

During my Post Graduate Diploma in Film Direction from the Film & Television Institute of India [FTII], Pune.

- Directed a 20 minute film in 35mm colour, titled 'EK HAADSA' (alternatively   'THE TRIAL'). It was selected for screening at the Augsburg Film Festival in   Germany, in March 1997.

- Directed a Song 'BOLO', composed by the well known music director,   Pritam, and written, arranged & sung by FTII students. Shot in 35mm B&W   format.

- Directed and edited a 5 minute film in 16mm B&W format, titled 'The   Intruder', apart from various other short films, as part of FTII student    exercises.

- Honours Diploma in Computer Software engineering from NIIT.
- B.A. (Hons) Economics from Delhi University.
