Vexed senior citizens, singles and even normal families where both spouses have tested positive are further anguished by exorbitant prices of medical equipment , hospital beds, ambulances charged by all and sundry wanting to make money irrespective of ethics and morality.
With this backdrop, Shradha Akkka Nikam, a tapestry artist, fashion designer and royal furnishings creator in Gurgaon was burning from within at the plight around; the catastrophe she, and indeed we all, were witnessing was huge. She couldn't sleep as she wondered what she could do to lessen the despondency and helplessness of people.
"My father, Kiran Baburao Nikkam, said to me, Anna Daanam Maha Daanam," Shradha says, adding "Which means offering food is the best gift in the world and this popular Sanskrit verse guided me to ramp up my home resources and offer help by providing home-cooked meals, totally free of cost, to COVID patients in home quarantine."
Today, just 5 weeks later, Team Shradha is providing 200 lunch and dinner packets to homes in Gurgaon and Delhi; each packet contains rice, daal, seasonal vegetable, a curry vegetable and 3 rotis. The response to her act of philanthropy has been overwhelming. 
"This crisis is far from over, and need for food will continue. Many people continue to face unemployment and families are struggling to pay bills" Shradha says, hoping to grow her network to continue to support neighbours and beyond, severely affected by the pandemic and impacted for a decent meal.
The amazing part is that she knows everyone whom her food is reaching. "They will get better soon....with my food!" The throughtput of food packets coupled with determination and purity of intent will undoubtedly bring relief to several people...and we hope her generosity will go a long way helping ensure that everyone has food they need in the days ahead.
